What is a 10-Q

A 10-Q is a report of a company's performance that must be submitted quarterly by all public companies to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

When do Companies Issue 10-Qs

A 10-Q contains similar information as a 10-K, but is not as comprehensive. A 10-Q must be submitted at the end of the first 3 quarters of a company's fiscal year, while a 10-K is submitted at the end of the 4th quarter. Financial statements reported as part of the 10-Q are not audited.

The 10-Q provides shareholders and regulators with information on the company's performance as well as its future outlook. The share price of a company's stock can experience significant gains or losses upon the release of its 10-Q.
